If this turns into an outright conflict both China and particularly President Ma Ying-jeou of Taiwan will have blood on their hands. Gone will be his false reputation as a ‘pragmatic’ and a ‘peacemaker’ and instead he will be remembered as the tin pot wannabe emperor who stirred the hornet’s nest.
