in taiwan when someone has writing (the words “taiwan car”) on their license plate, that means they believe that taiwan is its own country. those that dont have writing on them believe that taiwan belongs to mainland china and they identify with china and its government
You’re joking right?
The picture on the left is of a licence plate that has the chinese characters for ‘Taiwan Province’ on them. The picture on the right has none. The reason is that in 2005, by virtue of a constitutional amendment that abolished the National Assembly, the Taiwan Provincial Government was ‘frozen’ and effectively made redundant. Accordingly, the Pro-Taiwan Chen Administration at the time sought to remove legacy signage in accordance with the new constitutional order. As such the vehicle licence plate regulations changed and all vehicles registered after 2005 are now blank. Therefore, if you see those chinese characters on the plate the only thing it signifies is that the vehicle was registered before 2005.
A little research goes a long way.
